When we ask ourselves, what makes the experience of riding so well? It is a great performing bike. In bike performance, cycle wheels are key factors. A non-true wheel can be dangerous as well as it can define the riding experience.

Wheels come with multiple spokes that could be in various sizes, numbers, and shapes depending on the bike size, type, and brand.

It is not the only wheel spoke, but the tire, tubes, hub, or quick release bolt can define the trueness of your bike wheel. Let’s understand in detail what makes wheels wobble and how to rectify them.

1- Uneven tension on Spokes

Spokes are designed to spread the rolling tension evenly on the rim to make it perfectly circular in shape and roll without any inclination in any direction. The tension on these spokes may gradually change or vary after your rides on bumpy roads or a long usage.

The truing of wheels is a process of adjusting the overall tension of the wheel spokes with the help of True Tools and Spoke wrench.

You could find detailed instructions on how to use those on many youtube channels.

2- Wrongly Fit hub or quicky release

Your tire alignment to the bike frame also depends on the perfect fit hub with the bike frame. In case you find that the quick release tool is not fit well in this, we could definitely look into it and adjust it to a proper condition.

3- Brake adjustment

Yes, brake calipers or brake rotors could be reasons for wobble in the wheel. Check if these are also centrally aligned and are in perfect condition.

4- Tire fitting and tube adjustment

While changing your tubes or tires, you could verify that tires are well fit to the rim. Since the tire surface will touch the ground often, you might find this abnormality difficult while riding. The best way of this is to remove the complete tires and tube before reapplying. You could use lubricant on the tire/rim edges before putting it back for a perfect fit.

Lastly, a torn tire or overused tires may lead to this issue in your bike, so go for new ones.

These are the basic issues that affect the trueness of a wheel, however, there could be special cases for example crack on the carbon wheel or frame misalignment due to crash. In such scenarios, you should visit the nearest bike shop before making any further decision to ride with the bike.
