Organisers Fjords Cycling said on Monday that the 2026 Tour of Norway has been officially called off.

Firstly, question raised in our mind that what is “Tour of Norway”? And how to relate with the race of cycling?

The Tour of Norway is a yearly road cycling event that takes place across Norway. It was created to fill the gap left by the former Ringerike GP stage race, which later changed into a single-day competition. The race was launched in 2011 after cycling started gaining popularity in the country, inspired by the international success of riders like Thor Hushovd and Edvald Boasson Hagen.

But unfortunately, upcoming year 2026 this race will not be conducted, and the reason is due to “Government insufficient funds.”

The Tour of Norway is the country’s largest cycling race and has been running for more than ten years as part of the UCI ProSeries. Past winners include big names like Remco Evenepoel, Alexander Kristoff, and Matthew Brennan. In recent years, the event faced uncertainty because a large part of its funding came from the Norwegian government, and it remained unclear for a long time whether that financial support would be approved.

In a press release, Roy Hegreberg, the general manager of the Tour of Norway, explained that the sudden withdrawal of government funding made it impossible to keep working on next year’s race. As a result, Fjords Cycling decided to stop all preparations immediately. He also shared that, while he respects the government’s decisions, he was disappointed by the lack of warning and communication. The news came as a total shock, and there was little effort to speak with the organisers beforehand. But Hegreberg, ensures that “We will do our best to make sure this is only a short-term problem and not the end of the Tour of Norway.”
